Bill Russell of CBS asked Seattle's Dennis Johnson if he'd be guarding Billy Ray Bates in Game 2 of the 1980 playoff series between the Sonics and Blazers, after Bates had scored 29 points for Portland in Game 1.
The final exchange between Russell and DJ is priceless.
Through the first 17 games of his NBA career, Billy Ray Bates had become so popular in Portland that Brent Musburger told him "the ministers now are making their sermons about you on Sunday."
